Area Boy Rescued From Bottom Of Indiana Hotel Pool

April 22, 2014: Mitchell, IN - A 13-year-old boy from rural Ohio City is safe and well, thanks to the quick action of a relative. Authorities in Indiana say 13-year-old Riley Saylor was pulled from the bottom of a hotel swimming pool last Saturday night.

The quick action of bystanders is being credited with saving the boy's life. Indiana Conservation Officers say Saylor was spotted at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool at the Spring Mill State Park Inn’s pool in southern Indiana. The quick action of one of Saylor’s cousins, Sarah Rumschlag, 30 of Decatur, likely saved the boy’s life. Rumschlag jumped into the pool and brought Saylor to the surface, where two other visitors at the park, nurse Shelly Miller of Roanoke, Indiana and Amy Crouch of Fort Wayne, Indiana, gave the boy CPR until medics arrived at the hotel.

Officers say Saylor has made a full recovery after being taken to a Bloomington hospital. A published report indicated that Saylor was patially revived before being taken to the hospital.

Indiana Conservation Officer Chad Mills says the actions by the rescuers no doubt saved Riley’s life.
