Fatal Crash on State Route 197 in Auglaize County

Trooper from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a two vehicle accident fatal crash.  The crash occurred Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at approximately 8:26 a.m. on State Route 197 east of State Route 116 in Auglaize County. The crash involved a Caterpillar dump truck and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  The caterpillar dump truck was driven by Rolland Rhodes, 64, of Harrod, Ohio. The motorcycle was being operated by Ronald Stewart.  The dump truck was traveling westbound on State Route 197, attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway. The driver of the motorcycle was attempting to pass the dump truck.  The motorcycle struck the left side of the dump truck.  The dump truck sustained minor damage.

The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and was not wearing a helmet.  The motorcycle driver, Ronald Stewart, was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative of the Auglaize County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.
