Man Dies While Cleaning Drain Tile
October 12, 2015
The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Van Wert post is investigating the death of an Antwerp man. Friday, October 8, around 4:31 pm, a passerby noticed a body lying along the north side of US 33 near a culvert and alerted authorities. Troopers from the Van Wert Post responded and found 58 year-old John M. Chilcote of Antwerp unresponsive. Chilcote was pronounced deceased at 5:40 pm by Deputy Van Wert County Coroner Dr. Matthew Miller.
The evidence indicates that Chilcote died of natural causes while working to clear a drainage tile along US 30 near a field that he farmed.
