Early Snow Affects Harvest in Ohio

November 21, 2014-

Ohio's first heavy snowfall came before many farmers were able to harvest their corn crop.  Counties that still have corn in the field are Logan, Auglaize, Mercer, Darke, Van Wert, and Allen counties.  Nearly 83 percent of Ohio's corn has been harvested.  Snow can cause big problems if it is on the leaves or ears of the stalk, said one area farmer.  The snow plugs the screens of the combine.  You have to stop the tractor, get off, and unplug the screen.  This takes a lot of time.

Some farmers will be in the fields in December this year to complete their harvests.
