Lima Sees Decrease In Crime

March 26, 2015-

Lima Police Chief Kevin Martin is happy to see an overall decline in crime in the city but says if the numbers are going to continue to decline, it will be through the help of Lima residents.  Martin says, "It's important to engage the community and increase community involvement with the police department.  It's the people who live in the neighborhoods who can give us the best information."

The decline in crime represents an overall decrease in crime by 36 percent since 2008. Chief Martin feels an upcoming program, slated to begin in August, will place three community officers into the city's full time rotation.  Officers will meet with people,  and help residents with problems, hoping to lower crime yet more.

The biggest decline in Lima was assaults, down 336 to 1,097 compared to the previous year.
